A WINTRY ESCAPE

12 August 2014

Travelling in a winter wonderland is a magical event. Everything is more softer, glamorous and enchanting. There are frosty mornings spent in luxurious cashmere, afternoon wanders in unseen towns with stops at caf├ęs for hot tea or coffee, and cosy evenings by the fireplace to relax, unwind, and plan for the adventurous days ahead. Possibly a little chilly, but beautiful nonetheless, especially when wearing a classic trench coat.

The Lavish Voyage

Today’s fashion voyage, A Wintry Escape, is dedicated to travelling in the wintertime. Despite the chilliness, there are new grounds to be discovered, places to walk and experiences to live. I am sharing my stylish tips on how to stay wonderfully warm in the midst of a cold, blustery winter. From the chicest capes and scarves to leather jackets paired with tartan skirts and over-the-knee boots, here is my Lavish List of cold and rainy day essentials.

The Lavish List: Packing Guide for a Wintry Escape
1. An Elegant Coat
Timelessly elegant, a warm coat is a must-have staple for wintertime travels. From the classic belted honey-hued trench coat to the on-trend powdery pink peacoat, finish your ensemble with this cold-weather essential.  I love wearing a double-breasted coat for a chic and polished look. The iconic trench coat from Burberry London, as seen above, makes a great multi-season investment piece.

2. Warm Jackets
Set a glamorous tone for your winter voyages with perfectly tailored outerwear. With shearling jackets, structured blazers and nighttime essential, the black leather jacket, the options are endless. I never travel without my quilted leather jacket from Zara; it goes with everything and creates a sophisticated, yet cool, vibe.

3. Cosy Sweaters
Nothing says wintertime quite like cosy sweaters. I include neutral coloured sweaters – black, grey and beige – in my suitcase as they can easily mix and match with any outfit.  For a glamorous ensemble, try a grey turtleneck under a tartan slip dress paired with knitted stockings and low-heeled boots.

4. Flattering Black Pants
Another must-have item for your suitcase is a well-fitted pair of black pants. From dark-washed denim to black leather pants, this wardrobe staple is the perfect basic to begin your outfit with.  The super high-rise of the BLK DNM skinny jeans elongates your figure, making them a fabulous option.

5. Waterproof Boots
A comfortable pair of boots can easily become a travelling companion on long, winter voyages. Be sure to spray a water-protection treatment on your boots at least two day before your trip, especially if they are suede. The Asos black ankle boots are very cutting edge and can glam-up casual outfits.

6. Chic Bags
Carry all of your essentials in a waterproof handbag. You can make a bold statement with Dolce and Gabbana’s leopard print bag or play it safe with a neutral-toned bag. Also, bring a little clutch for evening outings to carry the necessities – phone, credit card and your favourite red lipstick.

7. Bold Accessories
Master winter dressing with scarves, gloves and hats. Select graphic prints like houndstooth and bold colours like ravishing red to reinvent your outfits. Mulberry’s ladylike bow gloves in red is oh-so-elegant and will keep your hands warm in icy temperatures.

8. Aromatic Winter Fragrance
Take a travel-sized winter perfume along with you on your next journey. I am currently loving Jo Malone’s Vanilla and Anise fragrance; it smells like a winter wonderland.

9. Thermals and Tights
The key to mastering winter travelling is layers, layers and yes, more layers. Layer up as it cools down with thermals and tights under each outfit.

10. Umbrella
And lastly, a wet weather essential. Do not forget to bring an umbrella for rain and snow. Don’t forget to enjoy every moment of your trip and dance in the rain with Kate Spade New York’s playful umbrella.

Coats, hats, and boots . . . that was my Lavish List for packing for a wintry escape.
